We congratulate Gert Nilsson for winning NorDX '99 and his price, a Sony ICF-SW7600G - sponsored by Sony Nordic in Denmark - will be sent to him asap. It is the third year in a row that Gert Nilsson have won the NorDX contest, which makes it even more remarkable

NorDX '99 took place October 15th-17th 1999 and was joined by DX'ers from Finland, Norway, Sweden
and Denmark. As well as a few from outside the Nordic countries who also took part in the listening -
but outside the competition.
NorDX '99 was arranged by
Dansk DX Lytter Klub (Danish DX Listeners Club) which is the largest DX club for Danish DX'ers and short wave listeners.

A total of 21 radio stations on short wave from all corners of the world were on the list of stations to be chased by the participants during the contest weekend.

The idea of the competition was to hear as many of the stations as possible - and to log as many
programme details as possible according to the rules of the competition.

The highligtht of the contest was supposed to be a special broadcast from Sisimiut Tusaataat in Greenland
who agreed to take part several months ago.
We were told several times by the station that they had a go ahead from the Greenlandic authorities and that they had access to a 5 kW short wave transmitter. However just a couple of days before the contest the station pulled out.

A special broadcast from Radio Pasifik in Fiji was not agreed upon when the programme for the contest was made, but we had discussions with people at the station and they didnt leave out the possibility.
However the idea was finally turned down.

So the organizers are very dissapointed with the result of our efforts which have been going on since January. We can mention that we have been trying to arrange special broadcasts from a.o. Gibraltar, Liechtenstein, Tristan de Cunha, Macao, Bermuda, a FM station in Spain, Diego Garcia, VoA in Belize, Christmas Islands, Brunei, US Virgin Islands, Radio Bahá'i in Ecuador, Oman (we suggested putting out their FM service on short wave - which they are doing now), Libya, Baarle-Hertog and finally a Spanish MW station on 1314 kHz (the Norwegian authorities had agreed to switch off 1314 kHz for half an hour) but everything was turned down. Actually we never received a reply to most of our letters.
Each station was approached several times.
So it would be true to say that we are very disappointed.

However we hope that the participants after all had some good hours of listening during the weekend, and we were pleased with the very special programme that one of the stations aired during the contest for the participants.
